Flow Yoga

Sarasvati Flow, is a dynamic, flow yoga inspired by my meditation in India, personal practice, and studies with Jivamukti. Chakra focussed, I look for sequencing that draws the student’s attention to the wholeness and artistry of the subtle and physical bodies. I aim to create fluid transitions that feel playful, spontaneous and expressive. My playlists combine dance, cinematic, classical Indian, and pop music to create an uplifting and inspiring experience. Chanting forms an integral part of my classes and I share a range of chants with my students throughout the year. Students will also work on a pranayama exercise, or bandha for the month, along with time for meditation.

Yin Yoga

The opposite to yang, or flow yoga, yin is about cultivating awareness in stillness. The different shapes of the body are held for longer periods of time, and there is a rest between each pose for self observation. Yin is like flow in that it stimulates the pranic and physical bodies, but I find it more gentle and more useful in times of stress. That’s not to say it doesn’t have an impact but I have found, as my yoga practice has progressed, I incorporate yin on lower energy days e.g. around new moon and my menstrual cycle. That’s not to say you should have days off, sometimes the body needs a day or more off the yoga mat. I call my yin practice Sarasvati Slow and I have designed routines that maintain the cakra focus of Sarasvati Flow so that I can transition seamlessly between the two types of yoga. I find that I learn something different about the chakra from the two types of yoga. By approaching the same problem from a different angle, the bodi opens up more readily. I would recommend students practice both yin and Flow classes each month. Take advantage of the Abhyasa Pass and practice both in the same week for a half price class (see above).

Trauma Informed

Following on from my own experience of mental health, as well as my teaching at Mind online during COVID, I developed a trauma informed approach to Sarasvati Flow & Slow. I learned the principles of trauma informed yoga at the Golden Mandala Soma Yoga Institute in 2022 and have applied them to my practice in the years since. TI classes are taught without music and without a strict breath count.

Trauma Informed classes are suitable for everyone. You do not have to be diagnosed with mental illness to enjoy a slower paced class. Trauma informed classes can be useful when you want to practicebut you are feeling psychically sensitive.
